MISSIONX  SUMMARY Jack Hager | Song a Day

For Mission X, I did a blog focused around music.

When Mr. Barringer introduced the Mission X project to us, I immediately knew I wanted to do something about music. Music plays a large part in my life, because I both listen to music all the time and play bass in a band. I considered the different ideas that I could incorporate music into, and I eventually decided on making a blog.

Once I decided to do a music blog, I had to make the decision about what I would do on this blog. I have always found lyrics and the stories that are told in songs very interesting, so I decided I would analyze songs and give my opinion about the song.

Every time I posted, I would decide on a song that I liked and do a little research on it to see if there was a story behind the song. More often than not, songs did not have a specific story that was told, so I used my own opinion and interpretation to analyze the lyrics.

I drew from different genres, ranging from hip-hop to alternative rock to classic rock to R&B and more. I chose songs that I enjoyed listening to and that I thought had an interesting meaning. This made writing about music very enjoyable and interesting to me.

Towards the end of Mission X, I decided to switch up my posts a little bit. Instead of analyzing a song, I posted about a couple bands. First, I wrote about Fall Out Boy’s new album, American Beauty/American Psycho. As a loyal fan of the band, I was extremely disappointed in the album, and I wrote about why I disliked it. Next, I wrote about Alabama Shakes, a new band I found and really took a liking to. I posted about their story and the type of music they made. I enjoy them a lot, so this was a fun post.

After I posted that, the end of the project had come, and I prepared for the Mission X Festival. I had lots of fun doing Mission X, because it gave us lots of freedom to incorporate what interested us into a school project.
