MISSIONX  SUMMARY Dina Clemente SITE: Breakfast Lunch & Dina

My Mission X experience this year was super fun and actually quite interesting. It all started in Camp week….

I knew that I wanted to do some type of video project, but I wasn’t sure what to do. But luckily, by the second day of Camp, I knew exactly what I would be doing: a video series of “social experiments.”

I decided that my first video would be a marshmallow “challenge.” This was where I conducted an experiment that was originally designed by a Stanford professor named Walter Mischel in the 1960s. This experiment began with a researcher bringing a child of the age of 4-5 years old into a private room. The researcher then proceeded to explain the rules to the child. The rules are very simple; if the child doesn’t eat the marshmallow by the time the researcher returned to the room (about 10-15 minutes later), the child would be given a second one. However, if they do eat the marshmallow, they will not be rewarded with another one. Forty years later, they find the adult, no longer a child, and see their accomplishments in life. They found that the ones who ate the single marshmallows right away were less successful in life than the ones who waited to get two marshmallows. Of course, I wasn’t going to track down a bunch of kindergarteners 40 years from now, but it seemed easy enough, right? Not right! After I had finished filming the clips for this episode, I had come to realize that I had no idea whatsoever how to use iMovie! I got help from a few peers, but I guess I’m not “gifted” with technology! Dang it, Dina! Come on!

Three weeks have passed into Mission X, and I am at a dead end. I have no clue what to do! I really had been set on doing these videos, and I just couldn’t break through!

So I switched my mind to something that I LOVE doing, and that is cooking and baking! Aha! A food website! Of course! So I started to design my website and make it look nice…a few recipes here and there. But it wasn’t how I had envisioned it at all. Man, now what am I gonna do?

The 8 weeks of Mission X are almost over, and my website is terrible! So one night, I sat down at my desk and worked for about 2 hours on my website and uploaded some new recipes and pictures and changed it A LOT.

Now, my website looks pretty snazzy, in my opinion!

Overall, I really enjoyed this project, and I can’t wait to do it again next year!

Use class time wisely, because if you don’t use that hour during school, you’ll become very behind and lose more than a whole day’s worth of work time.
