MISSIONX  SUMMARY Axel Lindquist

This Mission X project has been fun and also very frustrating at times.

I started off the project by designing games that people could play that would teach grammar lessons in a fun way. My first game was a complete success. I had a chicken that was able to knock a certain word to make a sentence grammatically correct. I tested it on my classmates, and I am proud to say that people had fun playing.

Sadly, however, after the first game was complete, everything went slowly downhill from there. I attempted to make two more games over the course of three weeks to little success. I even tried to make my games more interesting by starting a journal to record each day’s progress. Eventually, Mr. Barringer and I both agreed that I was not producing enough work, so I began to brainstorm for a new idea that I could complete in the next four weeks.

After a weekend of contemplating a new project, I thought that instead of doing grammar games, I could write a grammar book. I thought it would cool, humorous, and instructive to poke fun at common grammar errors people make all the time. So I showed Mr. Barringer my plan and my first page, the difference between lays and lies, and he approved!

So off I went writing and illustrating my grammar book. The first week I planned my book and what I would write and draw in it. As the second week of my new project came to a close, I made six pages with three examples. And at the end of the third week, I had made eight more pages that addressed four more common errors. By the end of the Mission X project, I had produced fourteen pages of illustrations and explained seven grammatical errors.

If you have hit a wall in your work with your project, which seemed so great earlier, don’t give up! If you can produce work, start a new project. My switch from designing games to writing my book was a great decision. Mr. Barringer helped me catch up, and in the end, I was so proud of my final product that I just about cried.
